“I am a textile artist and painter from Cornwall who uses stitch and layering to make illustrative and decorative work, incorporating existing features and alterations on used, vintage and recycled materials. I Purposefully bruise, unstitch and stain making my work have a seemingly incomplete quality. My technique is mostly appliqué with old fabrics of different weights, stitched predominately by hand with some machine embroidery when necessary. I enjoy the inherent history of the material often finding connections between subject matter and material. My subject matter is primarily portraits and narratives and characters within folklore. Magic realism in fabric. There is also something a little dark about my imagery, unclothed figures, stains and mad looking animals give my work an edge.”

Born in Truro, Cornwall in 1990, both of Elizabeth’s parents and grandmother were craftsmen and artists, and Elizabeth was inspired from a very young age and dreamt of doing the same. Studying Art, Textiles, History of Art and Music at Truro College, Elizabeth went to University College Falmouth to do her art foundation where she soon realised that fabric and all its qualities fascinated her. She subsequently spent a year at Goldsmiths College, London studying Fine Art and then three years studying Illustration at UWE, Bristol, graduating with a first class BA Hons in 2013. She now works in a small studio in West Cornwall.
