About the Gallery

“At the top of Chapel Street is Cornwall Contemporary, a dazzling white space opened in 2006 by Sarah Brittain-Mansbridge, its collections are a glorious showcase for Cornish artistic talent”  The Independent

Featured on the BBC, ITV and Sky Arts television and also in The Guardian, The Telegraph, Conde Nast and The Independent, Cornwall Contemporary has worked with prestigious clients and has placed works of art in venues such as The Dorchester and Gordon Ramsay Restaurant.

“It is truly a beautiful space, you’ll find all sorts of jewels from big names to new names. There’s something peaceful and tranquil about this gallery and I loved my time here. The Gallery Director, Sarah Brittain-Mansbridge clearly knows her stuff. She really is your expert on hand.” My Beautiful Cornwall

Gallery Director, Sarah Brittain-Mansbridge grew up in Cornwall and has worked in the arts since graduating from Falmouth College of Art in 1996. With 28 years experience, she is the author of numerous art books including ‘Behind the Canvas’ (hardback and paperback 2001) and ‘Daphne McClure – A Cornish Perspective’ 2020. In 2019 Sarah was selected as a trade ambassador by the Department of International Trade which has seen Cornwall Contemporary create strong links within the international art market and extend the gallery’s extensive worldwide list of clients.

“This much-loved gallery recently celebrated its 17th anniversary, with gallery director Sarah Brittain-Mansbridge at the helm, and it has developed a reputation for showcasing high quality, unique works and for spotting regional talent. Wander to the top of its three floors for marvellous rooftop views of Penzance. You’ll find a mix of established British artists beside promising just-out-of-art-school finds.” Maverick

Sarah and the Cornwall Contemporary team are passionate about the artists they represent and provide an excellent service for clients who wish to acquire a unique work of art. With a wealth of experience in placing art in residential and business locations, they are happy to advise first time buyers, as well as those wishing to add to their collection.

Nothing means more to the Cornwall Contemporary team than seeing a customer fall in love with a painting and helping them select the perfect piece of beautiful art for their home or place of work.

“Cornwall Contemporary is the jewel in Penzance’s artistic crown. This gorgeous gallery is always packed with surprises and the absolute best of Cornish Art. Stunning seascapes, still lives and contemporary sculptures sit alongside glowing ceramics, brilliant books and highly covetable jewellery pieces. The staff are passionate experts and more than happy to share their knowledge and insight into the works on display. Each exhibition is curated with the upmost care and style; demonstrating exactly why this is the go to gallery for international and local clients and creators alike. Make sure you explore all the way to the top rooms where there are always some gems! I love all the pieces I have purchased here and look forward to every show with anticipation.”  Sarah Ashley
