Is your jewellery still
Lost in the sand
Out on the coast
Or rushed into the brine
You left your rings
On the shoreline
So you wouldn't lose them

Swimming in the shallows

I had been away long enough for the plants from outside the studio to creep under the door and stretch out across the floor. The studio was flooded with stacks of images that I had gathered before abandoning them to go abroad.

On returning to the studio, delving through the material has creatively inspired a new collection of paintings and printworks. In turning over collections of sketchbooks, paintings and photos, I have exposed and developed on material and an eclectic mix of subjects has emerged.

I have also painted views of the harbour from the haven of my studio.

By not straying far from the studio images and the view, I have become closer to these subjects. A return to swimming in the shallows....

Jamie Boyd Jan 2010

Jamie Boyd is a dynamic and industrious artist. Falmouth, Cornwall remains his base since he graduated from art college there, but he travels extensively which motivates and inspires the work. Travelling has always provided major artistic input stemming from receiving a number of artistic travelling bursary awards whilst still a student and also as he began his full time painting career. Jamie has just returned from a number of months travelling through Africa. He continues to be one of the most successful painters at Cornwall Contemporary’s London exhibitions and I believe his career will continue to flourish.
