“Throughout this latest series of Cornish landscapes I’m exploring my interest in colour and light.
I have always been amazed by the effects of dazzling sunshine across a field of bluebells, or the warmth of the orange light from a setting sun on a cliff top carpeted with sea pinks. The yellow gorse with its intense coconut scent overpowers us on sunny afternoon walks through still valleys; these are all starting points for my paintings.
Through the continual experimentation of textural painted layers of colour, or a drawn line to generate depth and focus, I’m trying to recreate the effects of shimmering light across fields of intense colours.
My work as a painter has always relied upon being in the landscape and being connected to nature, where there is always something new to be discovered.”
