Jim Moir (Vic Reeves) – Comestibles Sir?
We are delighted to welcome back the artist Jim Moir, otherwise known as the comedian, actor and author Vic Reeves, for his second solo exhibition at Cornwall Contemporary. This follows on from his first solo show with us in 2022 The Lord of the Radiant Garden, which was an enormous success with both critics and collectors alike, with works sent around the UK and as far as Hong Kong.
Famous for his irreverent wit, glorious eccentricity and tremendous creativity, Jim Moir attended the Sir John Cass Art School in London at the age of 22 before becoming a household name in British comedy for television work including Vic Reeves Big Night Out, Shooting Stars, Vic Reeves Turner Prize Moments, The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer, Coronation Street and House of Fools.
Art has always been Moir’s first love and his original, eccentric and often mischievous artwork has been exhibited at institutions including the Royal Academy in London.
His new widely celebrated Sky Arts tv programme Painting Birds with Jim and Nancy follows Jim and his wife Nancy Sorrell around the country as Jim paints birds and meets up with friends and celebrities along the way. Cornwall Contemporary was featured in the Cornwall episode which showed Jim painting a Cornish Chough and delivering it to us in the gallery. This much loved new programme has just been commissioned for a second series.
The visual and wider arts scene continues to flourish here in Cornwall and Jim Moir’s unique creativity has been embraced by visitors and Cornwall Contemporary collectors. Moir’s hugely varied artworks reflect his humour, his refreshingly surreal view of the world and of his love for the natural world. I know that this new exhibition will again amuse and delight his many fans and collectors around the world.
