Simeon Stafford was born in Dukinfield in the north of England in1956. Showing a prodigious talent for drawing and painting from the age of ten, he was producing works of art far beyond his tender years which was acknowledged by his teachers.

“Simeon Stafford attended West Hill Boy’s School during the time that I was Head of Art. He was one of the best and most memorable of the pupils to study the subject in all my 27 years of teaching there and he had a deep interest in the arts.” Owen Traynor.

At the age of 14 Stafford met L.S Lowry who also encouraged him to paint and as a young artist, Stafford’s landscapes were similar to the gritty northern landscape of English northern artists.

Simeon moved to Cornwall in 1966 and the influence of his Northern roots fused with the light and colour of Cornwall to create a jubilant and exuberant style of working. Combining reality and imagination, his charming portrayals of Cornish harbours and busy cityscapes bustling with buoyant and joyful figures have become extensively collected and admired.

Widely regarded as one of the country’s leading living artists, Stafford has exhibited at the Royal Academy and his work can be found in numerous private collections, including those of her Majesty the Queen.

These recent works by Simeon Stafford show that he is still heavily influenced by the light of Cornwall. His paintings are moving forwards, ever evolving, not only in colour, but also in style and reflect his deep knowledge and love for painting over these last 50 years.

Like going on a journey, his paintings are of the present and of the world and imagination of Simeon Stafford.

As he puts it; "this beautiful thing called painting"
