Neil Pinkett - a personal perspective
Anyone visiting Neil Pinkett at his harbourside studio at Newlyn can tell as soon as they have passed through the door that here is an artist who has an innate desire to draw and paint. Sketchbooks are stacked high, easels display current works in progress and plan chests reveal reams of life drawings and pencil studies. Never one to work solely towards exhibitions, Neils creative urge sees him paint every day without fail following a strict self imposed timetable. Whether painting the view from the studio, out on the cliffs or indeed from his specially adapted canoe from which he can paint out at sea looking back at the land, Neil Pinkett is driven by a desire that leads him to capture all that surrounds him.
This new collection reveals a large range of work that has never been seen before. Intimate pencil sketches of friends and family, contemplative still life studies, nudes and sketches from his many travels abroad are exhibited alongside his better known oil paintings of land and seascapes.
It offers an insight to this highly respected and acclaimed artists working practice. The majority of work will be displayed unframed mirroring how it is normally viewed in the studio. From sensitive charcoal nude studies to delicately balanced still life compositions and dramatic seascapes, all of the work characteristically demonstrates Neil Pinketts masterly grasp of lighting, shade and ability to evoke atmosphere.
