Fiona Millais graduated from University of Newcastle with a degree in Fine Art in 1984. Her work has been extensively exhibited at venues including Thompsons Gallery and Thackeray Rankin Gallery both in London and The Royal College of Art.
Fionas paintings are often based on landscape or still life - of the coasts of Cornwall and Scotland, but are rarely a direct representation. Often produced on the completion of a journey - either abroad or within the British Isles and are evolved from memories, drawings and notes. Music and literature sometimes provide additional source material.
In 2004 she was commissioned for the P&O Liner Arcadia to produce 8 large works.
Fiona is the great-granddaughter of the pre-Raphaelite painter Sir John Everett Millais.

My response to landscape is an emotional one - Paintings are often evolved from memories, drawings and notes done on the spot. Additional materials are collected, so that stones, leaves and feathers become visual reminders. I love the connection between the natural rhythms of the land and the way it reflects our presence or the lack of it; the way a plough will follow the contours, ancient field systems are still visible as patterns, marks and furrows. Landscapes are shaped, by ourselves and our ancestors, leaving marks and echoes. My canvasses are often painted and repainted so that traces of the original images remain present, creating layers of texture, colour and interwoven history.
