Alasdair Lindsay was born in Chester in 1975. He came to Cornwall in 1996 to study Fine Art at Falmouth College of Art and has remained ever since where the coastal harbours, dockyards and landscape have remained a constant source of inspiration for his painting. He lives on the coast at Hayle.
He regularly exhibits at venues across the country including Brian Sinfield Gallery in Oxon, Martins Gallery, Cheltenham and Thompsons Gallery in London.
In 2002 he was commissioned to produce 12 paintings and 312 prints of those paintings for permanent display for the luxury Cunard liner Queen Mary II.
In 2004 he won 2nd prize in the prestigious Hunting Art Prize and was also selected to exhibit in the Hunting Art Prize in 2000, 2004 and 2005. In 2007 his work was exhibited in the Singer Friedlander Sunday Times Watercolour Competition at Mall Galleries, London.
I have chosen to make a study of Mounts Bay because of its variety and beauty, with quiet coves and beaches, small coastal villages and the main harbour towns of Penzance and Newlyn, all forming a crescent around the ever present view of St. Michaels Mount. Penzance and Newlyn are the main areas studied, with the stark minimalism of jubilee pool ranging to busy harbour and pontoon compositions. I am fortunate to be able to exhibit at Cornwall Contemporary Gallery at the centre of my studies in Penzance.
