Amanda Slade, Gwenver
mixed media on canvas 30 x 30cm £450
Amanda Slade was born in Berkshire in 1964. Beginning her artistic life at art school in the 1980s, and having studied printed textiles and painting, she undertook a number of commissions and exhibitions inspired by the East Sussex coastline and Surrey Heathlands. She came to Cornwall in 1997 seeking a place of inspiration in which to bring up her growing family.
Using layers of pencil, chalk, found paints and papers, Amanda creates intimate paintings that attempt to capture a fleeting moment and an emotional connection to the often stark beauty and changing seasons of West Cornwall. Whether it is a windblown shape of a hawthorn hedge line, or an orange Crocosmia flower set against an aqua sea, her paintings are infused with texture, light and colour and are deeply rooted in the wilds of the Penwith peninsula.
