Janet Lynch lives and works in West Cornwall. She studied at St. Martins School of Art and then later returned to art education at Hornsey College of Art after taking time out to raise her family. She has had a prestigious career including solo exhibitions at White Space Gallery, Islington Arts Factory and Lauderdale House in London. Her work has also been featured in group exhibitions at a wide variety of locations including The Barbican, Royal Academy Summer Show, Beardsmore Gallery and the Hyde Park Gallery in London.
Returning to figuration after many years of being an abstract painter was like walking through a forest, not knowing which path I had to take, but feeling the need to walk on, to take a risk, to maybe never find my way back to safety. I realise this need for symbolism, metaphor and the personal, in addition to aesthetic concerns is the result of spending time these last few years in New Mexico where life is raw for many people. Where death is embraced as part of life and where there seems to be little division between the symbolic and the real. So with my love of Cornwall undiminished these new paintings reflect the journey I have made, the path less travelled. A new way forward.
