Maggie Matthews, Airborne
mixed media on canvas, 30 x 30cm, £595

Maggie Matthews was born in Blaina, a small mining village in South Wales 1964. She studied Fine Art at Newport College of Art and Design followed by a degree at Exeter Art College and in 1988 moved to West Cornwall.

Her paintings have been exhibited extensively and have also toured the USA at venues including White Columns in New York, Flint Institute of Art, Michigan and Thomas Henry Fine Art on Nantucket Island.

“My work is inspired by peoples desire to invest meaning into everyday objects. I have a collection of pebbles and shells, chosen over time, that have become resonant with emotion. Maybe I found them at poignant moments or was intuitively attracted to their simple beauty. In this complex society it is difficult to find our own identity and maybe it is the very act of searching for beauty and finding meaning that brings us some tranquility.”
