About the Gallery
“At the top of Chapel Street is Cornwall Contemporary, a dazzling white space opened in 2006 by Sarah Brittain-Mansbridge, its collections are a glorious showcase for Cornish artistic talent” The Independent
Cornwall Contemporary opened on 1st September 2006. It is a large, spacious art gallery set out over three floors in a listed building at the top of historic Chapel Street in Penzance. Within five minutes walking distance of both Penlee House Gallery and The Exchange Gallery, the ground floor is used for changing exhibitions whilst the upper two floors are used for paintings by gallery artists and special capsule installations and exhibitions.
Exhibitions at Cornwall Contemporary change monthly and present the very best of art in Cornwall and from out of the county. Established and highly respected artists exhibit alongside some of the most exciting up–and–coming art school graduates and artists from around Britain and as far afield as Norway. Regular exhibiting artists include Neil Pinkett, Daphne McClure, Emma Dunbar, Ken Spooner, Ele Pack, Antonio Lopez Reche, Alasdair Lindsay, Maggie Matthews, David Mankin, Kristin Vestgard, Melanie Goemans, Emma McClure, Fiona Millais, Philip Lyons, Paul Lewin and Janet Lynch amongst others.
A specially curated range of quality ceramics and artist made jewellery is always on display including ceramics by world-renowned Leach Pottery, and stoneware bowls by Charlotte Jones. We also exhibit the distinctive ceramic figures of Jane Muir and exquisite porcelain sculpture by Melissa Kiernan. One off, unique jewellery is exhibited by Fay Page, Nancy Pickard, Kaz Robertson and Laura Baxter.
Gallery Director, Sarah Brittain-Mansbridge has been involved in the arts since graduating from Falmouth College of Art in 1996. With over 20 years of experience in working with artists, she is the author of the book ‘Behind the Canvas – 40 artists living and working in Penwith’ which was published in hardback and paperback in 2001 (Truran Books). She is passionate about the artist’s work she exhibits and aims to provide an excellent service both for them and for the clients who wish to purchase a unique work of art. With a deep knowledge and understanding of placing art in residential and business locations, she is happy to advise first time buyers, as well as those wishing to add to their collection.

Are you an artist wishing to submit your work for consideration? We are approached daily by a high number of artists and only represent a core selection, as we aim to represent a few to the very best of our ability, rather than an abundance of artists, badly. Therefore we don’t take on very many new artists in order to give our existing artists the time and space they deserve. Submissions are only accepted via email – email@example.com (maximum of 6 images). Please be patient for our reply and we thank you for your interest in the gallery.
