25 Harbours - Alasdair Lindsay

As the title of this new body of work suggests, this exhibition by Alasdair Lindsay is a study of twenty five different harbours and harbour towns. Many of the selected harbours are in Cornwall - where Alasdair lives on the coast at Hayle - whilst others are in Devon and some are even located as far away as Scotland.

The paintings include views that will be regular sights for many residents and visitors to Cornwall, but also featured are the less obvious views of harbours that lie “off the beaten track” and also some abstract studies.

Architecture is a regular characteristic of Lindsay’s paintings and in this show it ranges from wharfs to beach huts, harbour walls to pontoons whilst the landscape ranges from shingle beaches to cliffs and rocky islands.

Alasdair Lindsay was born in Cheshire in 1975. He came to Cornwall in 1996 to study at Falmouth College of Art and has remained ever since. His work has been exhibited at venues across the country including Brian Sinfield Gallery in Oxon, Martins Gallery, Cheltenham and Thompsons Gallery, London.

Alasdair’s paintings have been garnering increasing acclaim and in 2002 he was commissioned to produce 12 paintings and 312 prints of those paintings for permanent display on the luxury Cunard liner Queen Mary II.

In 2004 he won 2nd prize in the prestigious Hunting Art Prize and was also selected to exhibit in the Hunting Art Prize in 2000, 2004 and 2005. In 2007 his work was exhibited in the Singer Friedlander Sunday Times Watercolour Competition at Mall Galleries, London.

It is with great pleasure that Cornwall Contemporary hosts this second solo exhibition by this young dynamic artist.
